Found this because I'm researching for a review, and I found it ironic how you mention things like "music/score", "story", "direction" and "performances" so much---things that have nothing to do with gaming----that is---the actual act of play. Not that those things aren't valuable or valid, but to completely omit even mentioning actual gameplay??? Half-life was the one in which you touched on it the most...as an aside... When I think of a "perfect game", I think of perfect game design, and so, the things that come to mind are things like Pac-Man, Tetris, or Doom... Portal? Everything else is just dressing. Again, not that your points or preferences aren't valid, it's just surprising to see. Like, I can see what you like about Minecraft, but it would have never crossed my mind because block building and exploring has no kinetic play to it.

Nice use of the music from Fantastic Mr. Fox. People grow up. Players no longer want to play video games and instead want to do something else. Sure, it's good to go back and play every so often, but that's why the arcade exists. Fun times for a day and then come back next time for more fun when the player feels like it. I'll tell you why video games are not fun in the modern era. It's because video game companies do not find the joy in making their games. Look at Nintendo. They keep shutting down games and online services without ever thinking about the future generations of players. I want my great grandchildren to play the games I find joy in playing. Sick of talking about this kind of thing. I'm taking action.

one trick that works is throughout the day at work tell yourself what you will do when you get home, you need your brain to think that you will be really busy and not have time to breathe when you get home act like you are in a rush and work at that problem force yourself even if you dont want to, for example coding lets say you want to write a simple code in python start doinng that and when you want to quit because its boring dont just go to youtube and aimlessly browse stay on the problem at all cost also you need to let your brain know what time you are going sleep and then 1 hour before going sleep open a game of your choice even if you dont want to play it, start warming up and by the time the hour of bed comes you will be wanting to play the game instead of going bed, the brain is a tricky slimey dough of matter that needs to manipulated and tricked daily like every single day in order to control it, good luck guys this works for me might not work for everyone

Terraria. Does everything it sets out to do, and does them brilliantly. I have basically 0 complaints, aside from minor nitpicks. With mods, you have basically an unlimited amount of content, be it singleplayer or multiplayer.

Are you incapable of laughing or enjoying a moment? Are you a machine working for a paycheck so you can work more? How EXACTLY are you different from who you were, is it quantifiable? Programming you to buy something, or vote for something or watch something or believe in something. Only thing different about kids than adults is that society hasn’t completed programming you. Video Games are simply not fun because they are designed for making money not having fun. Indie games are plenty fun, for the same reason old games like Bungie’s Halo were so fun. Because the creators were gamers too, they wanted to built something fun. As the industry matured, and potential for money was discovered… the fun took less priority. I'm still ok with video games, only I plays older games from when I was a kid around 35 years ago, but I don't play them as much as I did when being a kid, now I have a lot of games most of which I didn't know even exist back then, and I took many of those along the way, don't ask me why, It's like a trip down memory lane... But, many of those that I have I never played them since I bought them, and I still keep them around... And a few of them I still play them a lot and really still had fun like I used to have, but most of them are really tough but it's still worth it... Just an average retro-gamer having fun again with an old console originally published in the stores around 30 years ago...

I think a lot of it changed during a turning point around 2010. Video games became more like chores because publishers want players to spend more money. instead of unlocking a skin by overcoming challenges, now you unlock the skin by investing a certain number of hours grinding because you don't wanna spend the $2.99, or you cave and just spend extra money. When a game is a story driven campaign, now its trying to lecture you about the social implications of whatever hot button topic. Single player, story driven games used to just deliver an interesting story with fun game play and thoughtful dialogue. The whole industry is caving in on itself due to the weight of their corporate interests, social commentary and lack of creative grace. I think the solution is for consumers to vote with their dollar and financially encourage these studios to be more considerate of their customer's time, money and intelligence. Although, people are still buying shitty games like crazy, so what reason would these companies have to improve at all?

As a Person that didn't have acces to consoles or a PC that could run games that needed good graphics, i had a limited acces to games now, as i am starting to get a good setup my reach of games is starting to get bigger, i am starting to have some fun! :D

The music from diamond and pearl brings memories from elementary with my DS. same with MW3/RuneScape and the last game to give me ultra serotonin boost was BO3 from release to 2017ish before I graduated.

As an 18 y/o i understand that feeling of why video games arent fun anymore but actually sometimes i pick up one the games from my childhood and i get into playing it again and it would last a few weeks and then id move onto the next game i used to play all the time, im from a big family so we all used to play the same games together and we are still just as close today so sometimes we replay those games and its like we are kids again enjoying those memories once more
